I Saw Peter Henry Home Last Night
that song I heard at the local folk festival years ago and has been hanging out in my head ever since - the most I've been able to find out about it on the internet is the following, from a May 1912 newspaper:
The Meet official "anthem" this season, as I have before pointed out, will be "I saw Peter Henry home last night," and for the benefit of our Teesside readers I give the chorus of this song, which will undoubtedly be whistled and sung all over the district shortly.
I saw the President home last night
For the sake of company;
Then it started raining cats and dogs,
So he came back with me.
We walked and talked and talked and walked
Till the day was dawning;
And we kept on seeing one another home
Till the clock struck six this morning

youtube just has very bad videos of people playing a version of it on an old record-player, which results in a sound quality so poor it's not worth listening to.
