Jennifer Tu 10:09 AM
The polling is super cool, is this a zoom feature or other software?
Niki Kohari 10:11 AM
Yes, this is a feature of Zoom webinars
Chiranjeevi Nalla 10:13 AM
I don't see poll any where. I have joined this webinar using the browser, is that why I don't see poll?
Niki Kohari 10:14 AM
Yes, you’ll need the zoom app to participate in polls.
John Zak 10:14 AM
Do you discuss multiple items in a retro or drill into a big one?
This question has been answered live
Amy Lane 10:14 AM
Is this an agenda that you would send out ahead of time?
Niki Kohari 10:17 AM
Yes, sending out an agenda in advance would be best, so everyone knows what’s coming and can follow along.
Oluf Nissen 10:17 AM
Does “Structure, structure, structure” imply sticking more staunchly to the phases? How to balance flexibility/meeting the group needs with structure?
This question has been answered live
Veronica Larena 10:18 AM
Regarding equalize participation princple, which strategy do you recommend to engage team members that are more introvert? What I’ve noticed is that despite the tools we might be using voices tend to be always the same, leaving those team members without participation.
This question has been answered live
Frederic Gagne 10:18 AM
How do you set up the buddy? Phone text messages?
Niki Kohari 10:20 AM
That’s a great way to do it. Whatsapp or other tools can be great for this.
Thomas Hansen 10:25 AM
Remote retro often involves different cultures...
Any takes on that ?
This question has been answered live
Juan Carlos Rivera 10:25 AM
What is the ideal size of team members in a fully remote retro?
This question has been answered live
Melanie Fricke 10:28 AM
Can Retrium be host on own servers?
Niki Kohari 10:29 AM
No, sorry, there’s no hosted version of Retrium
David Reichert 10:29 AM
Do you plan to add generic radars in Retrium similar to the generic columns?
Niki Kohari 10:29 AM
Yes, we will do this at some point in the future.
Anonymous Attendee 10:29 AM
What if the team often generates data that “blames” the PO or other teams rather than their own?
This question has been answered live
Frederic Gagne 10:30 AM
Do you have each people in the room bring their laptops to use Retrium?
This question has been answered live
Mihaela Pinzaru 10:31 AM
Retrium allows to share the retrospectives with other teams?
Niki Kohari 10:31 AM
The information in Retrium is only shared with people who have permission to view it. Happy to answer other questions if you want more information! support@retrium.com
Akmal Nasimov 10:35 AM
Niki,Dave: are there plans to do custom radards at some point?
Niki Kohari 10:35 AM
Yes, we’d like to do this at some point in the future!
john martin 10:36 AM
With the radar analysis, can only the leader do the different options or can any user go through those steps?
Niki Kohari 10:38 AM
Anyone with access to the team room and start a retrospective, including the radars
Filipe Soares 10:36 AM
why is this stage we do it anonymously when afterwards we need team members to discuss about it?
Niki Kohari 10:37 AM
This prevents groupthink and allows everyone to brainstorm without distractions
Erika Drushka 10:38 AM
In Retrium, when the facilitator creates multiple retros in one session, like David is doing for this demo, do they need to invite members to each one?
This question has been answered live
Niki Kohari 10:39 AM
No, they just need to be invited to the team room
Melanie Fricke 10:39 AM
I struggelled alot in the past with other tools, because of limitations of the performance and delays on changes on the dashboard. How many people can be work with Retrium in parallel?
Niki Kohari 10:41 AM
For the live meeting time in Retrium, an Agile team size of 8-15 is best, but we’ve had retros with teams up to 100 people (though not everyone is adding notes)
Blair Schrader 10:39 AM
What are your thoughts on repeating the same retro format for remote teams? For example, always asking the same set of questions, but focusing on a different question from one sprint retro to another.
This question has been answered live
Matt Thompson 10:39 AM
David, the single biggest pain point I’ve encountered w. remote retros in Retrium is the fact that only one person can sort the stickies into clusters at a time. With larger teams, this tends to slow things down and bottleneck with the facilitator. Is collaborative sorting a feature you might ship at some point?
Niki Kohari 10:42 AM
It’s currently in development, so it’s being worked on!
Martin Oesterberg 10:40 AM
Can you change the amounts of votes people have?
Niki Kohari 10:41 AM
No, this is not currently customizable. We use a formula recommended by Esther and Diana Larsen.
Jenalee LaPrade 10:41 AM
In remote retros, do you encourage the Scrum Masters to participate as well as facilitate?
This question has been answered live
David Reichert 10:45 AM
Dot voting can lead to certain team members dominating conversation with their votes. Do you plan to offer other approaches with a stronger mathematics backing such as the Schulze Method?
Niki Kohari 10:46 AM
The current method is recommended by industry experts, so we don’t have other plans to adjust this at this time.
Eugenia Mantero 10:46 AM
At what point in the Retro do you check the actions that you took in previous Retros?
This question has been answered live

From Tamsen Mitchell to Everyone: 10:11 AM
the polling button is only active some of the times
From Vanessa Sant'Anna to Everyone: 10:11 AM
For all meeting in general my previous company started to just make colocated people join remotely. It really is a lot easier
From Mahbub Hussain to Everyone: 10:16 AM

From Mahbub Hussain to Everyone: 10:17 AM
Thanks that's very useful
From Ewa Grabowska to Everyone: 10:18 AM
well, the research shows that having a video call increases the level of understanding and participation
From Niki Kohari to Everyone: 10:19 AM
Yes, the session is being recorded today! We’ll send out a link soon
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:20 AM
Tools aside, I find remote team members seldom express themselves. Especially when their leaders are present. :-(
From Scott Darrah to Everyone: 10:20 AM
i agree it's hard to get remote folks to chime in as much as locals
From Ewa Grabowska to Everyone: 10:21 AM
I’d say that it depends on the team’s maturity
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:21 AM
We use Ideaboardz, scrumblr
From Louis Wasnesky to Everyone: 10:21 AM
Really if one's following scrum leaders and product owners aren't supposed to be participating, It's supposed to be a "safe space"
From Megan Schweitzer to Everyone: 10:22 AM
We utilize trello and have the team members write their cards in advance
From Scott Darrah to Everyone: 10:22 AM
What happens if product owners have issues they want to have addressed?
From Dan Neumann to Everyone: 10:22 AM
Product Owners are part of a Scrum Team, and are thus Retrospective participants, according to Scrum Guide.
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:22 AM
Remote teamsare often hierarchical and members feel intimidated to speak in front of their leads.. .
From Marty Bland to Everyone: 10:23 AM
Break out rooms work well - just make sure to test them so you know how to use them before hand
From Sarah Salenger to Everyone: 10:23 AM
I thought remote people didn’t participate as much but it was really that the people in the room didn’t make the format engaging. when my team switched to all remote retros, we suddenly got a lot more engagement from everyone.
From Ewa Grabowska to Everyone: 10:23 AM
Exactly Sarah, I have the same experience
From Louis Wasnesky to Everyone: 10:23 AM
The retrospective isn't the ceremony for that. Those items can be brought up at the daily scrum, refinement, or sprint planning.
From Angela Doyle to Everyone: 10:23 AM
I think depending on the situation it is good to have a teaming agreement that includes the retros
From Scott Darrah to Everyone: 10:23 AM
That's a great point - make _everyone_ remote
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:24 AM
Scrum now referes to "ceremonies" as "events"
From Dan Neumann to Everyone: 10:24 AM
And the Retro is the place for PO concerns, as well.
From Louis Wasnesky to Everyone: 10:25 AM
While thay
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:25 AM
I have used the technique whereby a person speaking gets to pick the next person - thus randomizing the anchoring effect
From David Emmett to Everyone: 10:26 AM
^ we do that for standups (which we also do remotely), it becomes fun
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:27 AM
Is Retrium free? Or hsa a free option?
From Kevin Goldsmith to Everyone: 10:28 AM
Free trial 30 days
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:28 AM
Thanks, Kevin
From Me to All Panelists: 10:28 AM
you are not displaying your screen
From Federico Casabianca to Everyone: 10:28 AM
I think that could be a potential feature to be added to Retrium
From Me to All Panelists: 10:29 AM
SHARE YOUR SCREEN
From Federico Casabianca to Everyone: 10:29 AM
Add the possibility to add a question when you have to ask the team a question
From Louis Wasnesky to Everyone: 10:29 AM
http://ideaboardz.com/ is free. Not as many features as the paid solutions of course
From john martin to Everyone: 10:29 AM
All I can think about is who is the fourth person
From Oluf Nissen to Everyone: 10:30 AM
For safety: “I feel more safe when …” “I feel less safe when …”
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:31 AM
I would not want the tool that requires logging in.. this creates a feeling that I can see who's voting (even if I cannot)
From Steve Holyer to Everyone: 10:31 AM
+1 Oluf ;)
From john martin to Everyone: 10:34 AM
Oh, I like the outliers option
From Angela Doyle to Everyone: 10:36 AM
I think not being able to log in is really a good idea
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:37 AM
@angela, that's why I like scrumbr and Ideaboardz
From Jens Broos to Everyone: 10:37 AM
Blurring post its to prevent group think is one side, the other is: you can cluster on the fly if you see that somebody put your point already.
From Chiranjeevi Nalla to Everyone: 10:37 AM
We use Ideaboardz
From Oluf Nissen to Everyone: 10:38 AM
Yes
From Angela Doyle to Everyone: 10:38 AM
I like the way the tool shows different options for retrospectives
From Scott Darrah to Everyone: 10:42 AM
I'm head of QA and Scrummaster for a dev team. It's challenging to separate those roles sometimes. Fine line between 'servant leader' and 'I'm the boss'. Enable people to speak vs have an opinion on topics
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:43 AM
@Scott, you can leave your role as facilitator (I prefer that term to "boss") temporarily and cast your opinion. Then jump back to facilitate but don't opinionate (is that a word?)
From Scott Darrah to Everyone: 10:44 AM
Do you suggest I verbally do that? 'Taking off scrum hat putting on QA hat'
From Duc Hoang to Everyone: 10:44 AM
I'm late to the party. Is this being recorded?
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:44 AM
@Scott, absolutely. It must be clear to the team @Duc, yes it is
From Jessie Ettinger to Everyone: 10:44 AM
it is being recorded and will be sent out later
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:47 AM
When team members sigh at "yet another retro!" you know your ROTI is stale... Goole Docs is not ideal since everyone can see who's typing what..
From Mahbub Hussain to Everyone: 10:47 AM
Is Ideaboardz secure so that people outside of your org cannot view content?
From Andrew Reeves-Hall to Everyone: 10:47 AM
Aside: At end of most of retros that I facilitate, I set aside 5-10mins for everyone to share thank-yous / kudos (whether it be thanking another person there or perhaps in the wider org. It has made retros end on a happy note.
From Hemant Patel to Everyone: 10:48 AM
@Mahbub, no it's not. Just don't put any proprietary info there @Andrew, I do that at the start... Hand out Oscars!
From Andrew Reeves-Hall to Everyone: 10:48 AM
I shall try that!
From Donna Korn to Everyone: 10:48 AM
My team checks on actions halfway through the sprint after standup
