Example Coaching Contract Sharing

This is the coaching contract (guideline) for engagement I sent to the PO’s and SM’s whom I currently work with. I wanted to make sure we had terms of engagement so that we (coach + Scrum teams) can work effectively together. The engagement mechanisms was the initial driver for sending. It’s not perfect nor is it intended to be. I received warm acceptance from the recipients. If you like it and want to start with this, it’s yours!

Hello fellow Agilists! As part of the Agile teams that I'm aligned with, I want to make you aware of what I call a coaching contract between me as your Agile coach and how we can work together. I want to make sure we know how to foster continued engagement, collaboration, and support for each other. I've created a basic coaching contract as written below. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions to mold how we work together. This contract is intended to be used as guideline and not a policy.

Coaching Engagement Mechanisms: (I want to be there for you!)
Regular Coaching hours during the week. - Tuesdays 3-4pm; Thursdays: 10-11am EST
Directly reaching out to the Agile coach (me) via communication medium.
Scheduling time on my calendar. If hard to find time, coordinate with me directly.
If engagement availability becomes a concern, I strongly urge that you communicate with me directly so I can close any gaps.
If you have a specific event or meeting you wish me to attend, please make that clear to me in advance so I can prioritize accordingly. I want to be there!
Your commitment to be available when the Agile coach needs to engage (reciprocity).

Services or Engagement Types: (Not limited to…)
I encourage all Scrum team members to reach out to me independently if uncomfortable sharing with the team.
Provide specific topic coaching sessions for the team upon request. E.g. User Story Creation, Story Pointing, Agile Events, etc.

Team Engagement:
If we have a difference in opinion while in front of the team, agree to defer the conversation and revisit 1 on 1.
Shared understanding of when it's ok or not ok for the coach to inject guidance while in the presence of team members.
Always help each other (myself included) maintain an open mindset towards continuous improvement. Even when it appears that there is nothing to improve upon.

Commitment to always be willing to learn and to continuously improve!

My Location: Charlotte, NC; Eastern Standard Time (I can flex as needed for time zones.)
