The Game of Chess

* At the beginning of the game the chessboard is laid out so that each player has the white (or light) color square in the bottom right-hand side.
* The queen, always goes on her own matching color (white queen on white, black queen on black)
* Value of each piece.
A pawn is worth 1
A knight is worth 3
A bishop is worth 3
A rook is worth 5
A queen is worth 9
The king is infinitely valuable.

* Seek immediate and specific feedback on our performance. Champion chess and backgammon players promptly review the game they just lost, just as top students promptly review and correct error.
* Chess champion José Raúl Capablanca said, “In order to improve your game, you must study the endgame before everything else.”
* Chess masters consider the second and third step that they're planning.
