The missing link, indeed

Sheema Khan argues that Islamic terror is driven by foreign policy ( <http://canadiancoalition.com/globeandmail20060906/SheemaKhan_MissingLink.ht ml> The Missing Link Between Foreign Policy And Resentment -- Sept. 5), claiming that Londoners and Spaniards were killed because of their countries' involvement in Iraq; that thousands perished on 9/11 because of America's support for Israel and its presence in the Middle East; and that Canada has it coming because of our role in liberating Afghanistan from Islamist tyranny and our belief that Israel has a right to defend its citizens against terror. If foreign policy drives Islamic terror, could Ms. Khan explain the beheading of Christian schoolgirls in the Philippines, the murder of citizens in Thailand, the bombing of tourists in Egypt, the slaughter of black Africans in Sudan, the killing of more than 100,000 Algerians, the massacre of Indians in Mumbai, the daily slaughter of Shiites by Sunnis in Iraq, and murder and mayhem over cartoons? Is the common denominator a belligerent foreign policy toward the Muslim world? I'm certain Ms. Khan knows the name of the only "elephant in the room." Ms. Khan is faithfully delivering, perhaps inadvertently, the terrorists' message and demands. She is telling us how we must mend our ways to avoid a massacre in Canada. History has proved that appeasing a terrorist only leads to the shedding of more innocent blood. Ms. Khan should deliver a message to the elephant that it needs to change, not us.
