Why weren't we warned about the meteor that struck in Russia?

We weren't warned because we didn't know about it. We didn't know about it because we weren't looking hard enough. We weren't looking hard enough because we didn't spend enough money on the problem. We didn't spend enough money because we thought this kind of thing only happens in the movies.

A private company in Silicon Valley is tackling the problem. So they might know about the next one before the rest of us. How much would you pay? Maybe different rates to know 1 year, 1 day, 1 hour in advance?
